The housing crisis is attributed to a combination of factors, including high lending rates that occurred rapidly and insufficient construction to keep up with population growth over the past two decades. Jason Mercer, the chief market analyst of the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board, emphasized that if housing supply isn't increased to accommodate newcomers, it could endanger the local, provincial, and national economies.
